Southwest Moors |
Explore the picturesque coasts and moors of the West Country with an experienced leader. You will almost certainly see species such as peregrine falcons and red deer. If we are really lucky, we may spot an elusive otter. Don't forget to bring a camera! In addition, your leader will teach you how to interpret some of the tracks and signs of creatures that most ramblers miss, but which give a tantalising insight into a secret world all around us. On each of the five days you'll walk at your own, comfortable pace through beautiful and at times remote countryside. In the evenings, you will return to a comfortable local hotel, where half board accommodation will be provided. Dates: 01-02 Apr, 13-14 May, 03-04 Jun, 09-10 Sep Previous Experience: None. |

Trekking in the Stubai Alps |
The Stubai valley to the SW of Innsbruck in the Austrian Tyrol is a paradise for keen walkers. The area is served by an extensive network of fine alpine huts which we shall use for overnight accommodation and meals. (In Austria, these huts would be better described as mountain inns - they are invariably superior in quality to their equivalents in other Alpine countries.) Each day we will travel from hut to hut through a magnificent alpine landscape of lofty peaks with attendant glaciers, dramatic valleys and high pastures awash with wild flowers. Our routes avoid any difficult mountain passes or glaciers. Although there are some steeper, rougher sections on the path, these will not be any more demanding that those which might be encountered on a walk in, say, the Scottish Highlands. Although the pace will be reasonably relaxed, you will need to be fit enough walk for up to 10 miles (16 km) each day. There is a tough ascent of almost 4000' (1200m) on the first day's walk: thereafter there is no more than about 2000' (600m) of ascent each day, and often a lot less. Dates: Upon request (minimum 2 persons) Previous Experience: Some previous summer hillwalking and reasonable physical fitness. |

Stubai Alps for Photographers |
An ideal trek for photographers who like walking, or walkers who enjoy photography! Do you sometimes find that you just need a few more moments to create a photograph, but feel rushed by others who want to continue the walk? How many times have you been disappointed that the light wasn't quite as good as it could have been, or the cloudscape could have been a little better, if only you could have waited a little longer? As with the Trekking in the Stubai Alps holiday (above) we will make use of a network of high quality mountain huts for overnight accommodation, and travel from hut to hut by day. On this trip, however, we will ensure that there are opportunities to make the very most of early morning and late afternoon light, as well as seeking out some of the best viewpoints available. Again, the route will avoid any difficult mountain passes or glaciers, although there are some steeper, rougher sections on the path, somewhat akin to those which might be encountered in the Scottish Highlands, for example. The pace will be fairly relaxed, with plenty of scope to make the most of any photo-opportunities, but you will need to be fit enough walk for up to 10 miles (16 km) each day, carrying all your equipment. |
